Federal troops in D.C are intended to achieve at least two goals:
- Distraction from the president’s involvement with the trafficking and rape of minor girls.
- An excuse to harass and imprison people of color for the crime of being brown
The GOP has been bleating about rising crime against a backdrop of over a decade of reduced crime. That’s because to them “crime” is equivalent to Brown people living.
Homelessness is not solved by moving a homeless encampment out of the places where we claim to be addressing homelessness. It’s also not solved by criminalizing being homeless.
Universal Basic Income programs get people of out poverty and into homes. This has been proven time and again. Getting the homeless into housing while providing funds to get out of poverty does the same thing. These programs are cheaper than what we’re doing now.
The GOP’s solution to crime and homelessness does not and has never worked. Progressive policies like UBI and providing housing with support do work. But the GOP will never ever do anything that would help a brown person. Fucking racists.
