When I was a child, my parents said I had to go to church until I was 12. After that it would be my decision. I was baptized and I had to go to Sunday school. I learned a lot in Sunday school and it shaped the rest of my life. The major takeaway was that these people did not really believe. They only believed they were supposed to believe. Long before 12 I’d decided religion was a boondoggle designed to separate poor people from their money and scare them into behaving.
In fact, I concluded long before 12 that harming others was morally wrong and that fairness mattered and nobody needed religion to know that or coerce them into goodness. I quit going to church the day I turned 12. And I also resent that I was baptized. Fuck them. My decision not theirs, but we all know what Christians really think about women and agency.
The rise of Religious Right in the USA proved that cjewel under the age of 12 was a better “Christian” than any of them. And they are now doing harm to others in direct contradiction to the supposed tenets of their faith. In fact, it’s very clear to cjewel over the age of 12 that these people do not believe at all. They are evil and they are bringing forth their hell on earth.
