My proudest internet moment was when I contacted the host of a persistent spammer and got them shut down. This jerk was spamming dozens of times a day. I am 97% certain I know the spammer was a semi-legitimate service for a time, potentially because it allowed him to collect emails. And then it became this deluge of bullshit. I had the account blocked through my antispam service, but I got pissed when the unsubscribe went to a page in Hebrew so it was impossible to know what would happen or what to do. The guy already had my email ffs so honestly.
I contacted his webhost, explained the deluge of spam and that it was impossible to unsubscribe and I was pleasantly surprised when they responded that they agreed he was a spammer and they had terminated his account.
Yeah, yeah, he moved on, but any friction for these assholes matters. He’s still spamming me. He switches hosts and services pretty often. But now I’m going to go after his newsletter service and see if I can get him shut down there too. Because fuck that guy. I’m extra petty these days.
